LONG WOOD SPINE BOARD
The Long Wood Extrication Spine Board, Model B-3, is a time tested extrication product constructed of high strength 5/8” marine grade birch plywood, measuring 16” W x 60” L, this extrication board is designed to fit into tight spaces and most "stokes" type rescue baskets to provide critical cervical, thoracic and lumbar support for the patient during extrication, rescue, transportation, critical medical, MRI and X-ray procedures. The wooden extrication spine board's 16” width and 60" length is the first and only backboard specifically designed to fit down the aisles of school and commercial buses along with commercial aircraft. The natural buoyancy of the birch plywood makes this long extrication board an ideal tool for use in water rescues.
UNIQUE SPINE BOARD HAND SLOTS
The B-3 Long Wood Extrication Spine Board has ten hand hold slots around the perimeter and eight strap slots, including two leg strap slots, designed to provide multiple restraint options to secure the patient during each and every rescue situation.
In an emergency the strategically located multiple handholds and narrow board design allow four rescuers to pick up the long extrication board and provide a high degree of patient restraint from sliding or rolling, without requiring the use of restraining straps. Emergency stabilization is accomplished when four rescuer's place their hands in the handholds, palms facing outward, the patient is supported and temporarily immobilized between the rescuer's lower arms, permitting rapid egress to a safe area where full immobilization procedures can be completed in safety. No other EMS board has this feature.
The flat, rigid, smooth surfaces of the hard birch plywood provide excellent strength, patient support and protection. The thin flat smooth surfaces and absence of protrusions on the back side, allow it to be easily slid under or behind a patient without hanging up or getting caught on obstructions or sharp objects.
The smooth multi-layer lacquer finish and the marine grade birch plywood of the B-3 Long Extrication board make it highly resistant to chemicals, fluids and blood borne pathogens. The B-3 Long Extrication Spine Board's surfaces can be quickly and easily cleaned or disinfected by simply washing with detergents or common disinfectants and wiping dry or air drying. Unlike synthetic competitors, damaged wooden backboards can be resurfaced to provide many more years of service.
In a trench rescue or collapse rescue situations where seconds count, the B-3 Long Extrication Spine Board supported by cribbing or a hydraulic ram, with flat plates attached, may even be used as emergency temporary shoring capable of supporting very heavy weights.
