The Model C2A-40, 2 Ton Large Frame—Long Reach Heavy Duty Come Along, frequently referred to as a cable puller, hoist, or hand winch, is designed and constructed to meet the rigid specifications of and approved for use by EMERGENCY SQUAD TRAINING INSTITUTE, inventors and designers of the highest-quality American-made cue and extrication equipment. This heavy-duty long-reach pulling and lifting tool is designed and constructed to exact standards to meet the demanding requirements of rescue and extrication professionals.
The C2A-40, 2-ton Large Frame - Long Reach Come Along, is a hoist designed for overhead lifting and pulling with a two-part line. This hoist winch is manufactured utilizing an American-made large frame high-strength cast aluminum alloy housing with stainless steel springs, lubricated-for-life bearings, forty-foot-long extra flexible 133-strand galvanized aircraft cable, and 360-degree swiveling hooks constructed of drop-forged steel. The steel hooks are equipped with safety latches for positive load engagement.
All C2-40 Large Frame Long Reach ratchet hoists are Made in America with American-made materials to stringent ISO 9001:2008 Standards, ASME/ANSI Standard B-30.21, and European CE and TUV certifications. C2A-40 Long Reach hoists are non-destructively factory tested to 150% of rated working load capacity. The C2-40 Long Reach hoist is a heavy-duty hoist with a forty-foot-long cable designed for those long-reach overhead lifting and pulling situations where a long cable length is needed to meet the demanding requirements of fire and rescue professionals. This large frame hoist is not to be confused with an imported or hardware store-type cable puller, which was not designed or rated for overhead lifting and does not have the safety features of this professional rescue tool.
Our proprietary, quickly reversible handle switches positions in seconds, allowing the operator to pull downward when lifting or moving an object or load. The handle may be inserted into the bale from either direction. A second alternative socket angle for the hoist's handle gives you more options in tight spaces. The handle is designed to be removed to prevent tampering with the hoist or load.
Multiple-stage overload protection provides an easily replaceable shear pin that breaks with an audible warning upon overload conditions. The hoist remains operational, so the load can be reduced immediately. The shear pin breaks before the hoist or handle is damaged - further protecting your investment. We supply two shear pins to permit a rapid return to full service after an overload condition.
Our exclusive cable/drum anchor system utilizes a steel-swagged ball shank terminal, which locks the cable securely in the drum and allows full extension of the entire forty feet. Other brands use set screws requiring two to three unusable wraps of cable around the drum to secure their cable. Our drum design and guide system eliminates the "bird's nest" and cable crushing on the drum. The entire length of the cable is stored neatly and compactly on the drum. Crimped malleable copper sleeves (not aluminum) provide superior crimping of the cable strands.
With a two-part line, the cable, constructed of 7x19, 1/4" diameter 133-strand high-strength galvanized steel aircraft cable, provides an unequaled total of twenty feet of lift or pull on a two-ton load. Utilizing a single line, forty feet of lift on a one-ton load. The hoist provides a short minimum hook-to-hook distance of only 23" on a single line and f29 1/2" on a double line.
A reversing lever permits lowering loads one notch at a time. An unloaded cable may be stripped from the drum by operation of the "Quick Release" lever to permit rapid positioning when attaching to the object to be pulled or lifted. Internal safety devices will not allow "free wheeling" when a load or tension is applied to the cable to protect the operator from suddenly dropping the load.
LIGHTER WEIGHT
The complete C2A-40 hoist weighs just 29.5 pounds while providing two tons of pulling capacity at a distance of twenty feet. Our high-strength cast aluminum alloy large frame design achieves a lighter weight. Uniform close tolerance manufacturing provides smooth operation and durability, which you depend on daily.
COLOR-CODED HOOKS
Like its more minor brothers, the C-2A and C-2AM hoists, the C2A-40 Long Reach hoist is provided with color-coded blue safety latch hooks and handles to permit easy identification as a two-ton capacity hoist without the need to check data plates.
SAFETY LOAD HOLDING
Unmatched smooth winch operation and precise load movement are the results of the design, precision machining to 0.001" tolerances, ISO 9001:2008 Certified quality inspection procedures, the use of an optical comparator, hardness testers, plug gauges, and universal testing machine. One of two interlocking pawls is always engaged to prevent load dropping.

CABLE GUIDE
Based on user feedback, we have updated the cable guide's design to increase its durability and make it easier and quicker to replace in-house should it be damaged.
CABLE RETURN CRANK
The reversible handle attaches directly to the bale for slack cable takeup.
REVERSIBLE HANDLE
The reversible handle can be inserted into the socket from either direction, permitting a downward pull in tight spaces. The handle socket can be moved to the second position for additional leverage in lowering or backing off heavy loads.
TWO POSITION HANDLE SOCKET

SHEAR PIN
A shear pin in the handle assembly breaks with an audible noise to warn the operator of a severe overload. The hoist remains operational, permitting the load to be reduced as soon as possible. Shear pin replacement requires a matter of seconds. Each hoist is shipped with a spare shear pin, allowing operations to continue after an overload has been corrected. Additional shear pins are available for a minimal charge.
FULL CABLE LENGTH OPERATION
Our exclusive steel-swagged ball shank cable retention system allows the operator to utilize the entire cable length and pull it with the hoist's full rated capacity without maintaining two or three wraps of unusable cable on the drum like other manufacturers' models.
CABLE EYE
A steel cable eye protects the highly flexible 1/4" 7x19 strand highly flexible aircraft cable at the hook attachment with a large hydraulically crimped copper sleeve used to secure the cable eye, unlike other manufacturers who use an aluminum crimp sleeve.
FIVE HOOK OPTIONS
Five different drop-forged steel hook options are available:
All hooks are drop-forged, AISI 5140 alloy steel, and have 360° easy swiveling designs with a minimum of a 5:1 safety factor exceeding the 3:1 industry standard.
- Spring Safety Latch Shank Hook for positive load engagement is standard.
- Swivel Gate Hook option: The hook latch revolves around the hook and is lockable once ready for use.
- Removable Clevis Hook is available. Easily swap by removing the clevis pin and cotter pin.
- Eye Bolt. Use an eye bolt to secure a connection directly to the hoist.
- Self Locking Hook. Once under tension, the gate automatically closes.
MAINTENANCE
Minimum hoist maintenance is required. The open frame construction provides instant hoist inspection of all internal parts, lubricated for life bearings, and crimped copper sleeves capture cable strands to prevent fraying.
